VOYAGE: The Translator App
INTRO
Just imagine if you went to Nepal, to go for a trek on Everest. You will get a local as Sherpa to guide you to climb Everest. Being local he might not understand English completely and you might face some issues in your conversation cause you both won’t understand it fully. This is where our application “VOYAGE” comes in. This app helps you guys understand what you are saying in your own language by translating what both of you guys are speaking at same time.
Let’s say the Sherpa knows Nepali and you know English our app translates in real time from Nepali to English for you and English to Nepali for the Sherpa in no time.
Why Voyage?
It’s a simple and easy as translation app can be. The app consists of two modes as per the user preference.
(I) Conversation mode
· The main feature of Voyage is the Conversation mode. You can connect with another phone that uses this app in this mode. If the user accepts your connection request, your phone (or the Bluetooth headset, if attached) will record your conversation and convert the audio into text, which will be delivered to the interlocutor’s phone.
· The phone of the interlocutors will translate the text into his language.
· The other person’s phone converts the translated text to audio and plays it through their speaker (or through the other party’s Bluetooth headset if connected to their phone).
· Each user can have several interlocutor, allowing you to translate discussions involving more than two persons in any combination.
(ii)Walkie-talkie mode
· This mode is designed for quick talks, such as asking for information on the street or chatting to a store worker, rather than having a long conversation with someone.
· This mode only works between two people, it doesn’t function with Bluetooth headsets, and you have to take turns talking. Although it isn’t a true simultaneous translation, it can be used with just one phone.
· The smartphone microphone will listen in two languages at the same time in this mode (selectable on the same screen as the walkie talkie mode).
· The Programme will recognize the interlocutor’s language, translate the audio into the other language, convert the text to audio, and then play it back through the phone speaker. It will automatically restart listening after the TTS has finished.
Conclusion:
Our goal is to make it possible for anyone, everywhere to understand the world and express themselves in several languages. Looking beyond after the launch, we’re excited to keep enhancing translation quality and user experiences, adding additional languages to support, and making it easier for everyone to communicate every day.
